Phoebe Rayner

Mezzo-Soprano

British Mezzo-Soprano Phoebe Rayner is a first-class graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where she studied under the tutelage of Jane Irwin. This September, she will begin her postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music, studying with Amanda Roocroft.

Roles performed whilst in training include Soeur Saint Charles in Dialogues des Carmélites (RNCM Opera), Mrs Sedley/Auntie in Peter Grimes (RNCM Scenes and Orchestral Masterclass), Nancy in Albert Herring (RNCM Scenes), Miss Todd in The Old Maid and the Thief (RNCM Scenes), and Hansel in Hansel and Gretel (Opera Shack). During her time at the Royal Northern College of Music, Phoebe was placed on the External Professional Engagements List, selected as an RNCM Songster, and was highly commended in the James Martin Oncken Song Prize.

She has a passion for contemporary vocal repertoire, premiering works by Professor Rachel Beckles Willson, Philip Grange, Cee Haines, and various student composers within the past year. Degree highlights include originating the role of The Administrator in Fivestones by Eldad Diamant and performing Peter Maxwell Davies’ mono-drama Miss Donnithorne’s Maggot (RNCM Spotlight).
