Taneli Clarke

Tuba / Percussion

Taneli is a musician with a passion for artistic variety. He studied tuba under Shaun Crowther for his Bachelor of Music degree but for his Master of Music degree switched his specialism to percussion under Chris Bradley, both at the University of Huddersfield.

An acclaimed soloist, Taneli won the University of Huddersfield’s Concerto Competition in 2014, going on to perform his own transcription for marimba of Avner Dorman’s Mandolin Concerto, as well as winning both the Keldwyth Cumbria Young Musician Award (2014) & Kirklees Young Musician of the Year (2015) - the first percussionist to win either competition.

Taneli is also a keen chamber musician frequently performing classical, jazz and experimental music (including on the CD 'Morton Feldman - Two Pianos and other pieces', alongside John Tilbury & Philip Thomas); as well as playing in various shows, orchestras and brass bands (including Brighouse & Rastrick & Grimethorpe Colliery Bands).

In addition Taneli is an experienced conductor, currently Musical Director of the White Rose Concert Band in Harrogate, and an in-demand composer & arranger having received commissions for Black Dyke Band, Huddersfield Choral Society and the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain amongst others.
